Game Report by Mission Cleaners: Game Report by Brown Benefits:
The Cleaners entered Monday nights game looking for their first win against a top contender, while Browns looked to maintain pace at the top of the table and hopes of repeating as league champs. The game began and it was Browns that looked the part, pressing forward leaving a disorganized Cleaner squad chasing shadows. Eventually it was Tim Goward with a shifty move beating a defender before striping a low hard shot into the bottom corner. Browns kept the pressure on and the Cleaners had keeper, Jason Bekar to thank for only being down one at the half. The second half started with the Cleaners looking a different side and getting themselves a foothold in the match. After some back and forth flow it was a foul that would lead to Goward's second, a seeing eye strike through a maze of players into the bottom corner from 20 yards out. Down 2-0 the Cleaners needed the next goal to keep the match interesting and that is what they did when a ball over the top sprang Dave Jenkinson and was hammered into the side netting. With 20 minutes remaining the game was in the balance but besides a few nervous moments for both sides the game ended as it started with the Cleaners still looking for a win over a top squad and the Browns in their familiar position, looking to win another league title.
Two goals by Tim Goward powered Brown Benefits past Mission Cleaners 2-1 in the Mission. Goward opened the scoring midway through the first half when he took a long pass from Darryl Hazell and used a nifty turn to beat the last defender before firing a hard shot low to the bottom corner. After the break, the Cleaners came out very determined and applied the pressure. The Browns were awarded a free kick just outside the box and Goward blasted another low drive into the bottom of the corner. Mission's pressure paid off when a long ball forward got past the Browns defence and Jim Hutchinson broke in to score past Gord Regan with a fierce shot. Both teams continued to press for more goals, but time eventually ran out and Brown Benefits came away with the victory.
