Two goals by Don Brown and a stellar goaltending performance by Gord Regan powered Brown Benefits to a 3-0 victory over Penticton at Kings Park.
The Browns absorbed some early attacks from the home team but scored 15 minutes into the match when Brown headed in Grant Campbell’s pinpoint free kick at the far post. The Browns extended the lead ten minutes later when Tony Gonzales broke down the wing and squared the ball into Kelly Sherman who scored at the near post. Penticton continued to apply the pressure but the central defensive paring of Campbell and Lionel Hoffmann kept the Penticton strikers at bay. When the strikers did find a way through, Regan was there with a series of spectacular saves.
The second half continued the same way with Penticton attacking and the Browns doing their best Juventus impersonation by absorbing pressure and counter attacking. Don Brown finished off a neat passing play between Tim Austen and Gonzales when Gonzales picked him out all alone at the far post, which left the keeper stranded. Regan was called on again near the end of the match with a fantastic double save from point blank range. Tempers threatened to boil over towards the end of the match but the referee, who called an exceptional game all night, was quick to calm things down and the Browns held on for the 3-0 win.
