Game Report by Brown Benefits: Game Report by Soccer United:
Brown Benefits opened the new season with a 3-0 win over Soccer United at Parkinson. Midway through a back-and-forth first half, Steven Heiss’ low cross was coolly slotted home by Cam Bakala. Both keepers made terrific saves to keep the score 1-0 at halftime. Larry Kinakin doubled the Browns advantage when he redirected Dante Zanatta’s free kick into the bottom corner. Trevor Lutes completed the scoring with a shot that took a cruel deflection off a defender to leave the United keeper stranded.
Brown Benefits 3 vs. Soccer United 0. At Parkinson #16 in Kelowna, Soccer United got off to a strong start in the first half, taking it to last year’s champions. United deserved better, hitting a post and also being denied by Brown’s keeper after making a diving save to tip the ball wide. Later in the half, Brown benefitted from a quick counter attack that led to a cross to the far post for an easy tap in. Leading 1-0 at half, Brown carried the play in the 2nd half and happily claimed 2 more goals with a deflection off of a duffed free kick and an own goal by Soccer United from an attempted clear. Soccer United worked hard to get more opportunities, but their veteran opponent successfully clogged up the middle and preserved the clean sheet.
